THE PARISH OF WITHYCOMBE RALEIGH WITH EXMOUTH
THREE ANGLICAN CHURCH COMMUNITIES WORKING TOGETHER
The Meeting Room at
St John in the Wilderness
The church was re-ordered in 2005 allowing the addition of facilities that have helped the church to provide amenities, not previously enjoyed, for the greater use of the church. These facilities include not only a meeting room, but also a much needed toilet with baby change, kitchen and storage arrangements.
The Meeting Room provides the church with the opportunity to use this space for many activities other than just meeting space. As the pictures show children and young families are able to enjoy activities that are provided for their enjoyment and learning as part of their church experience.
The small kitchen area provided means that the church is able to cater in church, which was not previously possible. All the Sunday services are always followed by coffee, tea, soft drinks and biscuits. After the 11.30 am service there are activities for the children linked to the liturgy of the day.
The new facilities are modern and extremely well utilised, but they do not in any fight with the historic and traditional feel of the church, they complement the church and make it comfortable and 'fit for purpose' in the 21st century.
